Rajamouli's Eega (Naan Ee) Movie Review & Ratings (4/5)
Film: Eega (Telugu) Naan Ee (Tamil)
Director: SS Rajamouli
Music: MM Keeravani
Cast: Sudeep, Samantha, Nani, Abhiram, Crazy Mohan, Hamsa and Nandini
Rating: ****
Director SS Rajamouli has films including Magadheera, Maryadhe Ramanna, Simhadri, Yamadonga and Vikramarkudu to his credit. And this time around, he proves his mettle once again with his latest offering, Eega (Telegu).
In fact the film had garnered quite a bit of interest in the past few months with everyone wondering why is a fly the protagonist of the film.
Give the director a pat on the back; he's succeeded in using technology to its best.
Even though it would have surprised most Sudeep fans to see him play a negative role, the actor has done a fantastic job. It may sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but we're predicting this film to become a classic as far as Sudeep's career graph is concerned.
His expressions and performance, especially in a hotel sequence where he meets the character played by Samantha and finds that she craves for somebody, are superb.
The film is all about Sudeep (which is also the name of the character in the film) who is not only a successful businessman but also takes special interest in beautiful women. He meets Bindu (Samatha) and is completely smitten. He decides to donate Rs15 lakh to the NGO she works with. After that, he tries all sorts of tricks in the book to get close to Bindu and craves for her hand.
Meanwhile, Naani (Naani), an enthusiastic and energetic youth, falls in love with Bindu. While they decide to lead a happy life, Sudeep has other ideas.
His lust forces him to kill the young boy. But that's where Sudeep's troubles begin. Naani reincarnates as a housefly and decides to teach Sudeep a lesson.
Does he succeed in his mission, albeit his size and whatever happens to the two broken lovers? See the film to find out.
Samantha, who has acted in Telugu films including Ye Maaya Chesave, Brindavanam and Dookudu, looks charming and for a change, she isn't running around trees. This film gives her the opportunity to showcase her acting skills as much as possible.
Naani, as the possessive lover, appears on the silver screen for a very brief while but does a good job, nevertheless.
MM Keeravani has provided lilting music. Amongall the songs,Koncham Koncham, penned by Ananth Sriram and sung by Vijay Prakash —is the best. KK Senthilkumar has done a wonderful job behind the camera, too.
The movie is worth a watch not only for Telugu speaking people but also Kannada cine buffs since it has a few Kannada dialogues and Sudeep in the lead role. The film has also been dubbed into Tamil and has been released under the title, Naan Ee.

Hollywood Movie Motorway Review and Rating (3/5)
RATING: 3/5
Filmed in 2009 but undergone several changes including rewrites, reshoots and numerous re-edits, Soi Cheang's much-anticipated follow-up to his critically-acclaimed ACCIDENT (2009), has unexpectedly taking almost three years to complete the entire production. Now that the movie, MOTORWAY, has finally hits the theaters -- is it worth all the wait? For genre fans, this one delivers enough revved-up excitement especially for those who likes car chase. But for others who expect a typically great Milkyway production in the vein of Johnnie To's filmmaking standard will be slightly disappointed here.
The story revolves around two-member team of Hong Kong's "Invisible Squad", Cheung (Shawn Yue) and Lo (Anthony Wong), both cops who disguised as regular drivers until they track down any traffic offenses and pull the person over. At the beginning of the movie, Cheung abandons his partner Lo on the road to chase over the fleeing offender. As a result of his reckless action, both Cheung and Lo are summoned to radar gun duty by their superior (Gordon Lam). During a somewhat routine job, Cheung manages to pin down a driver by the name of Jiang (Guo Xiaodong) who has gone beyond the speed limit. In an ensuing chase, he manages to stop him and arrests him.
Apparently Jiang has a plan of his own. Once he is brought back to the police station, he takes his chance to help his partner-in-crime, Huang Zhong (Li Haitao) escape from the prison. Nevertheless, Jiang's superior driving skill and smart getaway plan manages to outwit the police and especially Cheung, who fails to capture both of them.
But of course, Cheung refuses to give up and discovers that Jiang knows a lot about unique driving skills. He tries to master some of his driving skills so he will have his chance to apprehend him one day. At the same time, this is where Lo, who has so far only cares about his retirement plan, starts to reveal his old self and teaches Cheung a few things about driving skills.
Joey O'Bryan, Szeto Kam-Yuen and Francis Fung's screenplay is pretty straightforward and commercial at best. Which means this movie is more on style and little on substance. Soi Cheang's direction, in the meantime, is adequate if nothing particularly special. It's quite a shame that he's hardly top himself over his much superior ACCIDENT in term of overall direction and storytelling method.
But whereas the movie feels lackluster for a Milkyway production, it does benefits from some of the above-average cast. Shawn Yue is perfectly typecast as a reckless rookie cop who is really at ease when comes to intense role. Guo Xiadong is cool and charismatic enough as the cocky getaway driver, while Anthony Wong steals the show as a retiring veteran cop who is actually more than meets the eye. At first, he is introduced as a lazy cop who just wants to pass the time and waits for retirement. But he's gradually reveals his true self when he is forced to get back into the game for one last redemption of making things right. His two particular memorable scenes are the one involved his teaching over Cheung on how to control the technique of driving, and another one involved his pursuit over Jiang along the curvy roads. Unfortunately, the female cast are neglected to thankless roles -- Barbie Hsu and Michelle Ye are more like window displays, while Josie Ho's minor portrayal as senior inspector is nothing more than a barking-order caricature.
The biggest saving grace of all is its exhilarating car chase scenes. Accompanied with DRIVE-like electronic score by Alex Gopher and Xavier Jamaux, the chase scenes are also well-choreographed by Chin Kar-Lok. Unlike most car chase movies that relies heavily on CGI, the action here feels more authentic because it emphasizes more on driving skills with real stunts. Plus, you've got to admire Chin Kar-Lok's superb job on crafting most of the car chase scenes at night shot in guerrilla style without permit.
As for the ending, the movie is rather anticlimactic especially the way how the bad guys are being dealt with. Though it doesn't have the cool precision of DRIVE (2011) and the stylistic elegance of Johnnie To's direction, MOTORWAY remains a slick and reasonably entertaining genre effort.

Bollywood Bol Bachchan Movie Review & Rating (2.5)
Cast: Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin, Prachi Desai, Neeraj Vora
Directed by Rohit Shetty
Rating: 2.5 *
Just after a cameo jig in the title song, Big B offers a disclaimer: he isn't a part of this film, even though his name is. And that is hint enough for the wise. But for those who don't know, Bol Bachchan (BB) jams chopsticks up the nose of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's comic classic 'Gol Maal' and digs itself six feet under with it. While the story is same in theory, being a Rohit Shetty film only adds some cars nailing somersaults, trucks attempting a ballet, baddies playing mid-air Garba after being biffed and Ajay Devgn drawing his eyebrows close enough to show that he means business.
Presenting the mightiest gunda of Ranakpur, human Google translator (Hindi to nonsensical) Prithviraj Raghuvanshi (Ajay Devgn). He comes, he punches, he delivers a line in two languages and he leaves. His opening shots and exits are in slow-mo and his lines leave you with loose motions. Lost in translation was adorable in 'Chupke Chupke'. But more than 35 years hence, poking the nose of grammar and tweaking the tits of English can hardly squeeze out a chuckle. The next best idea: replace words with similar sounding ones or extend them to make little sense and cause a lot of hilarity. So when someone is excited, Prithvi calms him, "Pest control yourself" and when he is praised, he humbly responds, "Thanks for the Complan boy." Yes, English used to be a phunny language.
I am orangy and fizzy too
Siblings, Abbas (Abhishek Bachchan) and Sania (Asin) have endured a difficult past before landing up in Ranakpur. Abbas pretends to be a Hindu and adopts the name- Abhishek Bachchan to avoid a communally volatile situation and is hired by Prithvi. Once his Muslim-self is exposed to his boss, a long and winding tale gives birth to his mooch-less step-twin brother Abbas. Like the original 'Gol Maal', he is also required to cast a mother, furnish her twin and so on. Deviations from the Amol Palekar version: here Prithvi falls for Sania as she is a photocopy of his late girlfriend. Also, Abbas fakes being gay while Abhishek is genuinely grumpy but collectively they don't add up to make one convincing actor.
How many Bachchans are needed to fix a light bulb?
While this film is packed with epic fails, here are some of the best. 1. Twice in the film, Prithvi's sister played by Prachi Desai is abducted and man-handled by Prithvi's evil brother who lives in the neighbouring village. But wouldn't Prithvi's brother be Prachi's brother too? #that awkward moment when you come to know... 2. Later in the film, Prachi throws a fit (to increase her screen presence?) and scoots to a village that can only be reached by crossing the evil brother's village. While most of the cast is clueless about her plan, the evil brother is randomly aware of the exact bus she is on. But since he isn't any wiser than the script writers of BB, he calls up Prithvi and announces his filthy plans. Obviously, epic dhishooming follows.
Want to exit in the interval? You can't!
When re-inventing a classic, the obvious benefit for any filmmaker is that the story has already been told. This allows for time and opportunity to experiment with parallel screenplays or embellish characters with fascinating traits. But director Rohit Shetty not only assumes that his audience hasn't seen the original 'Gol Maal' but also that they've been snoozing through this one. Reason: the finale has Devgn and his chamchas putting up a musical act that recaps the entire film.
Ajay Devgn tries his best to pull this one through but even his earnest efforts end up in vain. Whoever said two Bachchans are better than one had definitely not assumed even one of them would be Abhishek. AB junior is over 50 films old but the postfix after his name seems to find more meaning than to merely distinguish him from AB senior. Asin and Prachi Desai play up the high-intensity drama scenes and are mostly seen lamenting over some unfortunate event from the past. Archana Puran Singh is over-the-top and obnoxious and that is what she does best and that is exactly how you want her to be.
While the music in most Rohit Shetty films serves as the biggest promotional vehicle, here, even the title song can cause migraines to become your-grains. Action and stunt choreography subscribe to the 'Dabangg-Singham' genre of low-gravity fights and every strike results in a mid-air Moulin Rouge.
Mooch is the secret of my energy
'Mooch nahin toh kuch nahin' may seem like an understatement in this film as almost everyone, excluding Asin and Prachi (thankfully!) proudly jounce their bushy glory on their upper lips. But with a cardboard set and not enough costumes for all the extras, glueing on a mooch can be a cost-effective and efficient way to portray a village in Rajasthan. Kay bole se, Producer-sa?
